In December of 2000, Sulzer
Orthopedics announced a recall of more than 17,500 hip
implants. These implants were manufactured by Sulzer Medica
and sold in the United States beginning in 1997. The implants
were recalled after it was discovered that an oil-based
lubricant had left a residue on the outer shell of the hip
implant. In some circumstances, this residue prevents the
shell from adhering to the hip bone. This can cause pain and
slipping of the hip joint. As a result, further surgery may be
necessary.

find out if you are affected by this recall. You may be
eligible for medical monitoring or replacement surgery.
