About Norlina, N.C.
Norlina, North Carolina quietly rests among the gently rolling hills of the Piedmont region. Norlina residents believe the name is a shortened version of 'North Carolina'. According to the 2000 Census, Norlina is home to over 1,100 residents, with nearly 20,000 residing in Warren County,
Norlina became a flourishing community due to its location along the routes of the two major railroads, the Raleigh-Gaston and the Seaboard-Roanoke Rapids. As these locomotives routinely stopped for fuel and supplies, Norlina's enterprising residents began to sell other items to the railroad employees and travelers. In the 1870's, the two railroads merged into the Seaboard and Raleigh Railroad, at which time Norlina became a renowned area of commerce and trade. Finally, a series of mergers established the Seaboard Air Line Railway in 1900. The success of this prosperous railway brought tremendous economic growth to Norlina. Present day industries in Norlina provide employment in the retail trade, manufacturing and service sectors, with the resources of Research Triangle Park and the Norlina Community Development Association at their disposal.
