Jennifer R. Smith

Ms. Smith is a native of Zebulon, North Carolina.

Ms. Smith graduated cum laude in 1998 from North Carolina State University with a B.A. in Sociology and graduated cum laude in 2003 from North Carolina Central University School of Law where she served as a member of the senior editorial staff of the North Carolina Central Law Journal and was awarded the Outstanding Family Student Award from the North Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in 2003.

Ms. Smith began her legal career as a paralegal, earning her Civil Litigation Paralegal Certificate at Meredith College in 2000 and worked as a paralegal and law clerk while attending law school at North Carolina Central University.

Ms. Smith began her career as an attorney with Robert E. Riddle, a North Carolina Family Law specialist and Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, in Asheville, North Carolina. While in Asheville, Ms. Smith was the Secretary of the Asheville Chapter of the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys and a member of the Junior League of Asheville.

Ms. Smith was certified as a Family Law Specialist by the North Carolina State Bar in November, 2009.

Ms. Smith is currently a member of the Wake County Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar Association. Ms. Smith was appointed to the North Carolina Bar Association Law Practice Management Section’s Council for a three year term that ended in 2010. During her term, Ms. Smith co-edited the Law Practice Management Section’s Newsletter.

Ms. Smith is a member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church and The Junior League of Raleigh. Her work with the Junior League of Raleigh includes becoming a co-leader of a Girl Scouts Brownie Troup at the Brentwood Boys and Girls Club. Ms. Smith is currently participating in the Team in Training Program and training for the City of Oaks Marathon in November, 2010 while raising funds for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as part of her participation.

In her spare time, Ms. Smith enjoys reading, cooking, and caring for George, her rescue dog adopted from The Animal Compassion Network in Asheville, NC, as well as her cat Tabbin.
